Promotional image for Amy Real's botanical art and mixed media. The background features layered autumn leaves and botanical illustrations. Two framed mixed media artworks show moon phases, leaves, and colorful floral accents, with a central text overlay describing the art style, themes, and the artist's motto.

Using plants instead of manufactured art mediums and adhesives, I combine my love for art with my concern for the environment to create detailed collages of printed plant images and natural dyed fabric landscapes. Inspired by my heartfelt belief in the sacredness of the Earth, along with my interest in scientific research into the ability of plants to communicate, I intuitively allow the plants I have grown and collected to guide me as I perform my steam printing and dyeing process.  When the printing is complete, I “fussy cut” the plant images to create the artwork using multiple layers of paper on paper, or paper on fabric.  From there, I use a plant-based adhesive to secure the images. Often, I will embellish the fabric with detailed hand embroidery. Occasionally, I will incorporate dried or pressed plant materials into my work as well. Included with each framed piece is a detailed, handwritten list of all the plants and natural dyes used so that you may have a deeper understanding and appreciation for the magical ability of plants to create art.
